There is so much genealogy work to do. Sometimes I feel paralyzed as to deciding what line to work on. Do I work on my mothers' line or my fathers' line. The Dutch side (Mom) is so much easier to work on. The Dutch were more organized with their documents and were able to keep them, despite Holland being heavily bombed during the war. They also have great databases to locate information that Family Search might not have yet. Most all cities have their own databases and then there are several general databases for the country that are awesome. One may still have difficulty finding information, but the information is just better catalogued.
Working on my fathers' line (German) is another story. First off, managing through the country can be problematic. To begin with, Germany wasn't really Germany in the very beginning. It has morphed into different incarnations of a country until what it is today. So, the farther back you go in your ancestry, the more difficult it can become. Actually, I find working on the German side of my family intimidating. I've downloaded a lot of different tutorial videos to help me how to proceed. Now I just need to watch them a couple different times and then dig in.
So, going back to my first question, what side to work on??? I've thought alternating weeks as to what line to work on. But sometimes I'm working on one record the entire week. Not enough time. So, then I think maybe I'll work on a particular line for a month and then alternate. I don't know. I get easily sidetracked when I get an email from Family Search or My Heritage of an error in a record or they possibly found new sources for a relative. I'm not yet disciplined enough to not venture into these waters and go down the rabbit hole, AGAIN, on a different record, different line and work that line for awhile. I want to do it all. I need to settle down a little and be more pragmatic in my working. BUT, there are so many records that don't have all their information or children, or any information for that matter. Alas, I only have so much time in any given day to work so I need to be sensible and a little more structured. I'll get there eventually........I hope. If anyone has any words of wisdom, I'd welcome your thoughts.
